The Committee on Ethics will uh come to order. Uh before we begin uh I would like to read a letter into the record. Uh this letter is dated today, April twenty first, two thousand and s two two thousand twenty six. It is addressed to the Honorable Mike Johnson, Speaker of the House. The letter reads, Dear Mister Speaker, I hereby resign my office from the one nineteenth Congress as representative from Florida's twenty twentieth Congressional District, effective Tuesday, April twenty first, twenty twenty six, one thirty p m. It has been an honor of my lifetime to serve the people of my district, and I'm uh remain proud of the work we have accomplished on behalf of our communities. After careful reflection and prayer, I have concluded that it is in my best interest in the interest of my constituents and the institution that I set beside at this time. I remain committed to supporting a smooth transition and ensuring a continuity of service for the district. Signed sincerely, Sheila Sheriffless McCormick, member of Congress. Uh in light of Miss McCormick's resignation uh earlier today, uh the Committee on Ethics has now lost jurisdiction Uh, in this matter, uh, there will not be a sanctions hearing. Uh, I would like, uh, to thank, uh, the committee staff, uh, who are with us today, uh, for their two and a half years of hard work, uh, in this matter. Uh, I will tell you, uh, that the committee has worked diligently, uh, to investigate this matter, uh, that this was not a rush to judgment as some would claim. uh that this was a very uh deliberate process to gather information uh into allegations that were extremely serious uh and extremely complicated. Uh there were uh multiple witnesses that were spoken to uh over a two year period. Uh there were tens of thousands of documents that were subpoenaed, gathered, uh and reviewed uh and throughout this process, uh Miss McCormick, who has now resigned from Congress, had multiple ample opportunities um to present exculpatory evidence to the committee, uh and to address the committee both by way of a voluntary statement, uh and then also to comply with the subpoena that was issued uh in this case. Uh so I would like to thank the staff, uh I would like to thank the investigative subcommittee, uh that worked uh so hard uh on this matter. Uh before we conclude I would like to uh recognize the ranking member for any statements that he may have.
Uh, Mister Chairman, I just want to um agree with everything you've just said, and I'm proud to be associated with this committee. Nobody's happy. Uh, I don't think any of us are happy at what we've gone through, but I am extremely proud of being associated with all of you, and I'm grateful for the hard work and the diligence of the staff. Thank you, Mister Chairman.
Uh with that, uh in light of the resignation of Miss McCormick, uh and now that this uh committee has now lost jurisdiction, uh this hearing is now adjourned.
